Roaches found at 5 Dallas restaurants in most recent round of health inspections
Roaches were found at five Dallas restaurants by health inspectors who visited 250 eateries between May 19 and June 8, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Dallas uses a 100-point system in restaurant inspections. Scores of 100 to 90 are considered to be very good, and restaurant scores from 80 to 89 are considered to be good. Both require the next regular inspection to be in six months.
Scores from 79 to 70 are passing and require re-inspections within 30 days. If a restaurant scores between 69 and 60 it fails, with a follow-up inspection or temporary closure in 10 days.
Restaurants that score below 60 are closed and require inspection before they may reopen.
No restaurants scored below 60 from May 19 to June 8.
Heroes Sports Grill at 3904 North Stemmons Freeway failed its inspection, with a score of 66, on June 5, according to that data. It was one of the five restaurants at which inspectors noted roaches, finding dead roaches in dry storage, restroom hallways and the men’s bathroom.
Inspectors also found violations including dirt on the ice machine, food on the floor, meat being thawed in standing water and dirty toilets in both the men’s restroom and employee restroom. They observed one employee answer a phone and then handle food without washing hands and another use their bare hands to handle cooked food.
The other restaurants at which inspectors found roaches included:
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, 2525 Wycliff Road, dead roaches in the restroom;
Ho Mei Express Chinese Kitchens, 1820 W. Mockingbird Lane, live roach in the mop sink;
Aramark at Methodist, 1441 N. Beckley Ave.., dead cockroach in the mop sink;
Taco Cabana, 2635 North Stemmons Freeway, dead roach near the restroom.
Not including schools and grocery stores, these businesses that serve food received perfect scores in the inspections during that period:
McDonald’s at 10695 E. Northwest Highway;
McDonald’s at 5934 Abrams Road;
Omni Hotel, 555 S. Lamar St.;
Parigi, 3311 Oak Lawn Ave.;
Whataburger, 11721 E. Northwest Highway.
