Road closure: SR-56 to close overnight Wednesday and Thursday

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Caltrans has put out a traffic alert that a section of State Route 56 (SR-56) through Carmel Valley will be fully closed overnight this week.

Sections of SR-56 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. both Wednesday and Thursday night as Caltrans construction crews work to remove overhead signs.

Wednesday night: All westbound lanes along SR-56 between Carmel Creek Road and El Camino Real will be closed from 9:00 p.m. Wednesday to 4:00 a.m. Thursday.

Thursday night: All westbound lanes on SR-56 from Carmel Country Road to Carmel Creek Road will be closed from 9:00 p.m. Thursday to 4:00 a.m. Friday.

Community groups call for city to fix dangerous intersections

Detour

Caltrans says a detour will be in place both nights as all lanes will be closed during the work.

On Wednesday night, a detour will be in place from the exit at Carmel Creek Road, to Valley Center Drive, left on El Camino Real, and right on Carmel Valley Road to northbound and southbound I-5 ramps.

On Thursday night, drivers can exit at Carmel Country Road, turn right on Carmel Country Road, and turn left on Carmel Creek Road to the westbound SR-56 on-ramp.

Temperatures to reach over 100 degrees in parts of San Diego County this week

Caltrans says the work is being done at night to ensure the safety of construction crew members the public.

The dates of the scheduled closures could change, weather permitting.
