Sallisaw vigil held for Oklahoma homicide victims

SALLISAW, Okla. (KNWA/KFTA) — The community of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, remembered the lives of Tara Underwood and Taylor Sharp Thursday night.

Approximately 200 people gathered at Stage Park — which was a pivot from the original location, Pocket Park, due to the number of people — for a night of prayer, holding a vigil in remembrance of Underwood and Sharp. The two were found dead at LaFerry’s Propane in Gans, Oklahoma, Tuesday night.

Multiple pastors took center stage to lead the crowd in prayer and provide guidance moving forward, and a three-person band played multiple Christian songs.

Underwood’s family was brought on stage and her father shared his thoughts a few days following his daughter’s death.

“I never thought I’d find myself in the middle of domestic violence with a child,” Underwood’s father said before the crowd. “A child that I brought into this world.”

Tricia Wall attended Thursday’s vigil and said it’s important to show support and love to each other amidst this tragedy.

“To know that there are people standing there beside you, there to encourage you, to catch you, to comfort you, it’s a tremendous thing,” Wall said. “So, that we can come and have the family know that we have their back is important.”

Underwood’s father closed his address to the crowd with a prayer, asking God to watch over Sallisaw during this time of crisis.
