Salvation Army raises money for program helping those in need in, near Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Greater Baton Rouge Salvation Army is raising money for a program to make a big difference in the community.
Rachelle Haley, case manager for the Pathway of Hope, said she sees the impact of the program that aims to help Baton Rouge break generational cycles of poverty and addiction. The fundraiser was held on Thursday, June 20.
“This is huge. I mean, to go from a $0 balance to selling about 400 plates at $15, that’s going to be such a jump start,” she said.
Haley said schools and social workers have connected with the nonprofit to bring in clients. The resources offered go to individuals with kids under the age of 18 and help with financial management, life skills, education programs and more.

“Teach them financial management skills, teach them life skills. If they need to go back and get their education, help them find housing and help them find employment,” said Haley.
This is the first year this fundraiser was done, but it won’t be the last said Donavon Benoit with the Salvation Army.
He said, “Salvation Army has been here. It will remain here, and we want to reignite that, that connection between the Salvation Army and the community.”
Haley said donations are always welcome and can be made to the Greater Baton Rouge Salvation Army.
