At about 6 p.m., Pacifica police officers and North County Fire Authority personnel were dispatched to the 100 block of Everglades Drive on reports of a residential explosion. Upon arriving, fire authorities identified damage to the property and one resident with injuries.

Initial reports were that “household chemicals may have been inadvertently combined, resulting in a chemical reaction.” Pacifica police contacted the San Mateo County Hazardous Materials Materials Emergency Response Team and the San Mateo County Bomb Squad for further investigation.

The roadway on Everglades Drive between Picardo Court and Park Pacifica Avenue was
closed for approximately five hours during the initial investigation, police said.

Police said the homeowner and the local building official cooperated throughout the investigation. Officials said the building was no longer a hazard to the community and determined the residence was “safe for occupancy.”

Police said the resident was taken to a nearby hospital and was later released.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Pacifica Police
Department.
