Sangamon, Macon County to see $47 million in construction projects

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A Central Illinois lawmaker is celebrating millions of dollars in infrastructure investments coming to her district.

Sen. Doris Turner (D-Springfield) said $47 million from the Illinois Department of Transportation’s $40 billion multi-year plan has been allocated to 16 projects in her district.

The project funds improvement across Central Illinois in all modes of transportation: roads and bridges, aviation, transit, freight and passenger rail, waterways, as well as bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

Turner said Decatur and Springfield residents will soon see much-needed upgrades on the roads.

“We made a commitment to improve the state’s aging infrastructure,” she said. Turner (D-Springfield). “Investing in our roads increases safety, brings good-paying jobs and boosts the local economy.”
