School repair, HR staff member sought in Truro election June 27

The town of Truro will hold a special town election on Thursday, June 27, where residents will cast their votes on four ballot questions.

One of the key measures on the ballot, Question 1, asks whether the town should be exempt from the amounts required to pay for bonds to cover engineering services, construction, and repairs related to the HVAC system and roof repairs at Truro Central School. This includes the flat rubber roof and all associated HVAC ventilation and heating system components.

Another measure, Question 2, asks voters to exempt the town from the amounts needed to fund bonds for engineering and related services for a new Department of Public Works Facility, set to be located at the Town Hall Hill site.

Additionally, voters will determine whether to assess an additional $113,158 in real estate and personal property taxes to supplement the operating budget for hiring a human resources coordinator for the fiscal year starting July 1. This proposal, Question 3, aims to address the town's administrative needs by adding this new position.

The final question on the ballot, Question 4, concerns an exemption from the amounts required to pay for bonds to cover costs associated with engineering services, construction and remediation related to tidal restoration and drainage improvements at Mill Pond. This includes replacing a failed 36-inch culvert on Mill Pond Road.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the day of the election at the Truro Community Center. Early in-person voting will commence Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 4 p.m. at the town clerk’s office.

Further details on the ballot questions and voting procedures are available on the town's official website or through the town clerk's office.
