Schoolboys get through £300 of food and booze after hiding overnight in supermarket
Two young schoolboys are being investigated for theft after they reportedly helped themselves to £300 of food and alcohol from inside a Sainsbury’s overnight.
The boys, believed to be aged 12 and 13, are alleged to have hidden inside the clothing section of the superstore in East Kilbride before “ransacking” it once it closed.
Early morning workers discovered the pair with hundreds of pounds of items on them at around 2am.
A police spokesman confirmed they were investigating the theft of a £35 camera and two memory cards that were reported missing in a stock take following the incident.
He said: “At around 2am two boys aged 12 to 13 were found with items within Sainsbury’s Kingsgate.
“Parents were called and the children were picked up and are safe and well.
“Following further enquiries three items have been reported stolen. Enquiries are ongoing with Sainsbury’s.”
A source told the Daily Record that night-workers did not discover the boys for some time as they were working in smaller groups in one area.

They added: “Shutters used to be left up where the vans are but are now being closed at 10pm and security is sweeping the store at closing time.
“It’s shocking that security guards failed to notice the two boys.”
A Sainsbury’s spokeswoman told the East Kilbride News they were “supporting the police with their investigation”.
