See who won the 2024 NJ primary elections in Essex County
There are only a handful of contested primaries in Essex County municipalities this year and on the county level.
One of the major races is in the Essex County sheriff primary, where two Democrats and two Republicans are vying for their party's nomination to replace retiring Armando B. Fontoura. The longest serving sheriff in New Jersey history, Fontoura at age 81 announced in March that he will not seek a 13th term.
The other hotly-contested race is the Democratic primary for the Bloomfield mayoral race.
