The cause of the crash is still under investigation. CSP reported the crash was between a semitruck and a Toyota SUV.

The agency said the area is a two-lane road, striped for no passing. CSP’s preliminary investigation shows that the Toyota was traveling northbound and attempted to pass traffic in the oncoming lane, leading to a head-on collision.

The SUV’s sole occupant was declared dead at the scene. The semi-driver was uninjured.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol and Franktown Fire were on the scene. The Douglas County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased driver after notifying their next of kin.
