Separate motorcycle crashes leave two dead in Mackinac County

MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich. (WJMN) — Two people are dead after separate motorcycle crashes this week in Mackinac County.

The Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office tells us the first happened Thursday night. Around 10:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a crash on M-134 near Prentiss Bay Road. Upon arrival, they said it appeared that the motorcycle carrying two people had crashed with a deer and that both people were thrown off the bike.

First responders observed the driver to have received non-life threatening injuries, while the passenger was hurt severely. Despite life-saving efforts, the passenger died on the scene. The sheriff told Local 3 the crash victims were a married couple from Chippewa County on their way home from dinner.

The second crash happened soon after 9 a.m. Friday morning. We’re told deputies saw an orange Harley-Davidson speeding east on Worth Road near M-123. When the deputies tried to pull the operator over, they say he sped off south on M-123 through Moran at speeds over 100 mph.

When the operator reached Castle Rock Road, they say he failed to negotiate the curve and was ejected from the bike.

The 38-year-old man was taken to a local hospital but died as a result of his injuries. The sheriff’s office said he was from Mackinac County and wanted on outstanding warrants.
