Rhode Island man killed in two-car crash on Route 205 in Brooklyn

A Rhode Island man was killed following a two-car crash on Route 205 in Brooklyn early Friday.

State police troopers and medics received reports of the collision at 5:50 a.m. in the area where Route 205 meets Bailey Woods Road and Gorman Road, according to Connecticut State Police.

State police said 70-year-old Sergio Valera Urena of Providence, Rhode Island was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to state police, the 2007 Ford Explorer Urena was driving was involved in a collision with a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab pickup truck being driven by a 22-year-old Plainfield man. The pickup truck driver was taken to Backus Hospital Plainfield Emergency Care Center for suspected minor injuries.

State police said the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Squad (C.A.R.S.) responded to investigate.

Route 205 was closed for several hours while crews were at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
