Several DUI checkpoints to come in Northern California, here’s when

(FOX40.COM) — Several law enforcement agencies throughout Northern California are scheduled to host DUI checkpoints soon, and according to state law, they must give proper notice to the public.

The upcoming checkpoints are set up to identify people who drive while under the influence of drugs/alcohol or without a valid driver’s license. According to police, “crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized proactive DUI operations are conducted routinely.” Here’s when the checkpoints will be:

Why does California law enforcement announce DUI checkpoints?

El Dorado County:

The California Highway Patrol said it has a DUI checkpoint scheduled for “the evening” of July 6.

“All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on our local roadways by intoxicated drivers,” said Lieutenant R. Hatfield. “Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked for drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”

Folsom

The Folsom Police Department will host a checkpoint on June 26 during “evening hours” at an undisclosed location.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Sergeant Tim Galovich.“Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”

Lincoln

The Lincoln Police Department said a checkpoint will happen on June 28, from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. The exact location was not revealed, however, the area is located northwest of Roseville and Rocklin in Placer County.

Sacramento

The California Highway Patrol is scheduled to host a checkpoint on July 5. CHP said the exact location and time of the operation will be released about two hours before the checkpoint.

Stockton

The Stockton Police Department announced a checkpoint from 6 p.m. on June 28 to 2 a.m. on June 29 at an “undisclosed location within the city limits.”
