Sheriff's office investigating fatal motor vehicle crash in Sangerfield

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred in Sangerfield on Thursday.

According to the sheriff’s office, a call went out for a crash on Route 12 in Sangerfield at around 3:30 p.m. When deputies arrived, they found Jesse Hafelin, 40, of North Brookfield deceased at the scene.

Deputies say that Hafelin was traveling north on Route 12 when he lost control of his bike. It flipped on its side, and Hafelin, along with the bike, crossed over into the southbound lane and slid in front of a car driven by Terry Frair, 77, of Norwhich.

The sheriff’s office added that there was heavy rain falling at the time of the crash and Frair was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing, and no tickets have been issued.

The Sheriff's Accident Reconstruction unit and ID unit were brought in to reconstruct the crash.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Waterville Fire Dept. and N. Brookfield Fire Dept.
