Shorter days: See how much daylight we’ll lose this month

CLEVELAND (WJW) – The longest day of the year has now come and gone.

The summer solstice arrived in the Northern Hemisphere at 4:51 p.m. EDT on June 20.

The day marked the official start of summer with 15 hours and 11 minutes of daylight in Northeast Ohio. Now, inevitably, the days will begin getting shorter.

One month from now, there will be about 27 minutes less of daylight. By July 20, the sun will rise around 6:10 a.m. and set at 8:55 p.m.

The shortest day of the year will be the winter solstice on Dec. 21. According to FOX 8 Meteorologist Scott Sabol, we will see just 9 hours and 10 minutes of daylight on that day.
