Shoun Thao swears in to Sacramento City Council District 2 seat
(FOX40.COM) — A week after being appointed, Shoun Thao was officially sworn in to his temporary position on the Sacramento City Council on Tuesday night.
Thao was unanimously appointed to the District 2 seat on an interim basis on March 26. The seat was previously vacant for a few months after Sean Loloee announced his resignation in January weeks after being indicted on several federal charges.
Thao was one of dozens of applicants after the city opened the application process following Loloee’s resignation.
Thao grew up in North Sacramento, attending Grant Union High School and returned to work in the community after graduating from UC Davis in 2012.
His family still lives in the area and owns Jimmy’s Deli Soul Food & Hmong Cuisine, a restaurant near Grant High.
“Honored to witness the swearing in of Shoun Thao as our District 2 council member,” Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg wrote on his X account. “Looking forward to working together to uplift District 2, a place deserving of the best representation.”
The newly appointed council member will serve until the winner of the November election takes office on Dec. 10.
Who is Shoun Thao, the Sacramento City Council District 2 appointee?
The race for the full term will be between Roger Dickinson and Stephen Walton.
District 2 was one of four city council races in the March 5 primary election. The district encompasses the Northern Sacramento areas of Del Paso Heights, Hagginwood and Robla.
