Six semi-trucks involved in two I-70 crashes

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A total of six semi-trucks were involved in two separate crashes on Thursday in the same area of Interstate 70 in Effingham County.

Both crashes happened within 30 minutes and two miles of each other, and both happened in a construction zone. Officials with the Illinois State Police said the first happened near milepost 103.5 at 7:15 p.m. Four semis were involved.

The Teutopolis and Montrose Fire Protection Districts responded to the scene. Officials said one of the drivers was transported to the hospital; their condition is unknown at this time.

About 20 minutes later, another crash happened two miles west of the first crash. Illinois State Police said a semi-truck rear-ended a tanker truck that was stopped in traffic, but no one was hurt.

Firefighters from Teutopolis and Montrose left the highway at 9 p.m. and all lanes have since reopened.
