Southern York County borough asks customers to conserve water after recent spike in use

The Stewartstown Borough Authority is asking customers to conserve water as it recently has seen a spike in use, according to a Facebook post.

It comes as York County is in the midst of a heat wave and little rain has fallen this month. Stewartstown is in an area that currently is abnormally dry, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

The authority reports that the "daily water usage has spiked dramatically" over the past two months, and it is has had to buy more water from the York Water Company to help supplement its six wells, the post states.

It is asking customers to voluntarily conserve their outside water use, such as not watering lawns or washing vehicles, the post states.

"If this trend continues, we will have to go to mandatory restrictions so we’re trying to be proactive by asking you to help us," the post states.
