Special election day: Kennedy, Dickson compete to fill Higgins’ NY-26 seat
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — With Brian Higgins out of the picture, the election to fill his NY-26 seat in Congress takes place Tuesday.
Sen. Tim Kennedy (D) and West Seneca Town Supervisor Gary Dickson (R) are competing to represent a congressional district that encompasses part of western Niagara County and northern Erie County.

The seat became vacant after Higgins, a Democratic congressman since 2005, announced he was stepping down from the public sector mid-term to become President of Shea’s Performing Arts Center — a job he began in February.
The winner of Tuesday’s special election will finish Higgins’ term. A primary election will follow in June. Then in November, a general election will be held for the next full two-year term in Congress.
