Springs Utilities warns about compromised power lines

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Springs Utilities (Springs Utilities) is warning the public about the dangers of driving over or under damaged power lines, a risk that Springs Utilities said could have deadly consequences.

Springs Utilities warned to always assume power lines are energized and to stay away from them. If you see a damaged power line, stay 35 feet away from power lines and anything the lines are touching, and call (719) 448-4800 to report the damaged line or pole to Springs Utilities.

The snowstorm on Thursday, March 14 forecasted more than 20 inches in areas of Colorado Springs and El Paso County. Springs Utilities said heavy, wet snow may cause damage to tree branches and power lines. If an outage occurs near you, monitor the outage with Springs Utilities’ outage map.

Springs Utilities said if you do experience an outage, do not use ovens, stoves, or camping stoves for heat to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
