As a result, police patrols have increased, and business checks continue. Business owners can meet with an SPD Crime Prevention Officer to give feedback or suggestions on how to prevent these incidents.

Statesville Police provided the following crime prevention tips:

  • Install an alarm system and post warnings of the alarm system in clear view.

  • Install security cameras with a battery backup for continuous surveillance.

  • Increase lighting and add motion detection lights.

  • Secure all possible entry points when leaving the building, and that windows are securely locked.

  • Install heavy-duty deadbolts and reinforce door jams.

  • Check landscaping and outdoor features to determine if landscaping provides cover for potential thieves.

  • Remove expensive items from display windows.

  • Always take cash out of registers overnight.

Business owners and employees are urged to stay alert. If you see suspicious activity, call the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3406.
