Storm damage fails to delay Cassville summer school start

CASSVILLE, Mo. — Storm damage didn’t impact the start of summer school in the Cassville School District. After the storms hit over the weekend, power and internet were knocked out throughout the schools. Before giving the all-clear, the district checked to make sure power, internet, and food weren’t spoiled. The district also made sure bus routes were clear to pick up students and for parents to make it to school. Cassville Schools Superintendent, Dr. Merlyn Johnson, says more than 500 students began summer school on schedule.

“We were able to check off all the boxes. We had electricity, our coolers were working, our air conditioning was working, and our internet was working. So once we secured all those things, we knew we could go ahead and have summer school,” said Dr. Merlyn Johnson, Cassville R-4 Schools Superintendent.

Dr. Johnson says this could be a good place for students to be, as parents are working on cleaning up debris and handling electricity issues from the storm. Summer school is in session from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. until the third week of June.
