Suspect and victim identified in fatal Wentzville shooting

WENTZVILLE, Mo. – Police have a man in custody who is in connection with a deadly domestic dispute in Wentzville Tuesday night.

Carlos Hood, 31, is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action for fatally shooting 39-year-old Leon Anderson and fleeing the scene.

Hood and Anderson got into an argument that involved a woman at her townhome in the 1300 block of Hidden Valley Dr. around 10:30 p.m. Court documents state the woman had a relationship with both men at one point.

The altercation began inside the residence and carried outside to the parking lot. According to police, Hood then shot Anderson, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

“(Police) were searching all night, we pushed something out on social media. We obtained several tips from residents (of) noises in their backyard, motion on their cameras, things like that, which we appreciate,” Sgt. Jake Schmidt from the Wentzville Police Department said.

One nearby resident caught the entire incident on their Ring camera. Police located Hood hours later and took him into custody without any incident.

“So, technology helps us out again,” Schmidt said. “Thankfully, the community steps up and reports that to us.”

Community members were shocked by the shooting.

“There’s a bunch of kids in here—there’s no reason why people are shooting people in here. There’s no reason for the guns,” Desiree Shinauld said.

Matthew Mason added, “I just couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe this is gonna happen in a suburban town like this.”

The Wentzville Police Department said this is an ongoing investigation, and encourage anyone in a domestic violence situation to seek help.
