Swearing-in ceremony set Monday for St. George Transition District members

ST. GEORGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A swearing-in ceremony for appointed members of the St. George Transition District is set for Monday with a meeting following regarding the transfer of sales tax revenue from the parish.

Officials said in a Friday, June 21 news release that the swearing-in ceremony is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 24 at the St. George City Hall at 14100 Airline Highway in training room B. The public is invited to attend.

During the meeting after the ceremony, members will elect officers and request the transfer of the 2% sales tax revenue from East Baton Rouge Parish to the St. George Transition District.

“The St. George Transition District was created to provide for a continuation of services between East Baton Rouge Parish and the City of St. George. The St. George Transition District is the taxing authority for the 2% sales tax until an election is held to transfer that taxing authority to the City of St. George,” the news release said.

St. George government officials appointed by Gov. Jeff Landry, including the interim mayor and police chief, were sworn in earlier this month.
