Tallahassee Growler Country relocating soon, closing Capital Circle location

After 10 years, the popular bar and craft beer destination known as Growler Country is closing its original northeast Tallahassee location and will relocate.

“We're not saying we're closing. We're pausing," co-owner Mario Fernandez told the Tallahassee Democrat in an interview, on the restaurant's transition to a new space. The doors close at the 3305 Capital Circle N.E. location on Sunday, June 23.

The storefront was a popular destination for gameday watch parties, had a generous craft beer selection and was known for its revered Cuban sandwich.

Now, Growler Country owners say there are two new sites on the way, with one location near the Capital Circle location and another on Killearn Plaza Lane, coupled with what they're calling a 'Jurassic Pizza Y'all' pizza concept.

The first site, the exact location of which he would not disclose, is slated to open in the next few weeks on an empty lot. It'll use trucks as a kitchen to service a traditional, Munich-inspired outdoor Biergarten and an indoor 'tavern & grill' in a hangar-like structure.

A news release says new features will include “plenty of parking, dedicated areas for families and rotating entertainment.” Using an empty lot will help the concept save money and expand as needed, Fernandez said.

“We wouldn't have to build the kitchen and you know, build this and that. We would just have food trucks and then a building,” Fernandez said. “It doesn't have all the requirements of a traditional brick and mortar restaurant.”

There will still be servers at this location, duplicating the same dining experience at the old flagship location.

News on the closure of the Capital Circle location circulated on Facebook after the company announced a glimpse of what the expansion holds. One patron wrote: “You had us at Biergarten! Look forward to this."

Another user commented: “Oh no! What are we to do in the meantime? There really is no place like it...and that second location has been teased forever...we are sad!”

The Capital Circle location will be open till 10 p.m. Friday; noon-10 p.m. Saturday and noon-8 p.m. Sunday.
