Tampa man leads chase at 110 mph on I-4, crashes into car, FHP says

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Tampa man was arrested Friday night after leading a high-speed chase on I-4, according to an arrest report.

The Florida Highway Patrol said at around 9 p.m., Edwin Carrion-Andino, 39, of Tampa was spotted by a trooper patrolling I-4 in Hillsborough County.

The trooper was put on alert for Carrion-Andino after the Lakeland Police Department reported that the suspect was being chased in a stolen car.

The trooper stated that the suspect refused to pull over and continued to speed past him, using evasive maneuvers and speeding at over 110 mph.

According to the FHP, Carrion-Andino tried to merge onto I-75 but lost control, crashing into another vehicle. Authorities said the suspect then tried to run away into the tree line but was apprehended by a K9.

The report said when he was questioned, the suspect admitted to using ecstasy and marijuana before driving and that he was aware that he was driving a stolen car. Driving records also showed that Carrion-Andino was driving with a suspended license and that he was a habitual traffic offender.

He was charged with several crimes, including fleeing, resisting, grand theft of a motor vehicle, DUI, and battering a police animal.
