Teen killed, 2 others wounded in North Side shooting: police

CHICAGO - A 16-year-old boy was killed, and two others were injured in a shooting Friday on the city's North Side.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. near North Rockwell Street and West Hollywood Avenue, in the West Ridge neighborhood.

According to police, the three 16-year-old victims were entering a vehicle when they were struck by gunfire. One of them was shot in the back and transported to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Benicio Gomez, of Chicago.

Another teen was hit in the shoulder and hospitalized in serious condition. The third victim was shot in the knee and listed in fair condition.

A witness told police that the victims were shot by someone inside a black SUV. Nobody is currently in custody, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
