Jun. 18—ATLANTA — Hospitals in Colquitt and Thomas counties received big financial grants from the state recently.

Gov. Brian Kemp announced that 13 rural hospitals would get $6 million as part of the Dual Track Rural Hospital Support Program, a statement from Kemp's office said Tuesday.

John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville and Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie each received $1 million in grant money. That means of the $6 million in grants announced Tuesday, one-third will go to those two hospitals alone.

Hospitals receiving the grants can choose between supporting programs that provide additional training for physicians or using the money to tackle financial and operational improvements, staffing issues and healthcare access, the statement said. Both Colquitt Regional and Archbold chose to go with the additional physician training, the governor's office said.

Hospitals received anywhere from $250,000 to $1 million each.
