Three Alleghany Highlands Public Schools closed due to plumbing issue

ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Alleghany Highlands Public Schools (AHPS) says three schools will be closed on Friday, March 22, due to plumbing issues.

The district says classes will be canceled for Alleghany High School (AHS), Jackson River Technical Center, and Clifton Academy as crews work to resolve a reoccurring plumbing issue. We’re told the plumbing issue is at AHS.

Alleghany High School 2024 graduation ceremony moved to Casey Field

This marks the third time over the last two weeks that classes have been canceled due to plumbing.

“AHPS maintenance crews and Covington City Public Works are working diligently to resolve the plumbing issue at AHS. We thank you for your continued patience and understanding,” said school officials in a release.

AHPS says Covington Middle School will open on Friday.
