Topeka teen ID’d, found guilty of killing 13-year-old

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A judge found Joshua Garcia guilty of killing 13-year-old Kaleb Lane in a 2023 shooting, prosecutors confirmed Thursday.

Garcia, who was 14 at the time of his arrest, is being tried in juvenile court. A judge found him guilty of reckless second-degree murder and criminal use of a firearm by a juvenile, prosecutors said.

The killing happened March 16, 2023, in the 1300 block of Garfield, near Huntoon and Washburn in Central Topeka. Lane was an eighth grader at Eisenhower Middle School.

Garcia is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 16, prosecutors said.
