Tulip Time named third 'most spectacular' flower festival by USA Today

HOLLAND — With the big event only weeks away, Tulip Time has been named the third "most spectacular" flower festival in the country by USA Today, following only Mackinac Island's Lilac Festival and the Cincinnati Zoo's Zoo Blooms.

Tulip Time, as the name suggests, celebrates hundreds of thousands of tulips planted across Holland and Holland Township, including along Eighth Street, in Centennial Park, at Window on the Waterfront, and in ticketed destinations like Nelis' Dutch Village, Windmill Island Gardens and Veldheer Tulip Gardens.

The festival runs May 4-12 this year, though it's too soon to tell if the tulips will be at peak bloom during the event. An unseasonably warm late winter has a handful of flowers blooming already. The city's last "Stem Fest" was in 2012, an event mostly embraced by visitors, businesses and attractions.

Tulip Time will see, as usual, food vendors, a carnival, musical acts (including Scotty McCreery), historic walking tours, parades, dances, tall ship tours, an artisan market, a quilt show, floral arranging and more.
