2 killed in hit-and-run, secondary crash on I-270 in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Maryland State Police (MSP) said two people died Friday morning after a hit-and-run crash on I-270 led to another wreck on highway.

MSP said Luis Isaac Bran, 17, of Gaithersburg, Md. and Rebeca Gabriela Vasquez Moreno, 18, of El Salvador were passengers in an SUV involved in the crash. Medics took the SUV’s driver to the hospital for treatment. Police belive she was Bran’s mother and Vasquez Moreno’s aunt.

Crews from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) were at the scene of the crash shortly after it happened around 5 a.m.

State troopers believe a BMW convertible hit the back of the SUV on Interstate 270 near Falls Road, then kept going. A pickup truck rear-ended the SUV after that.

MSP said troopers found the convertible diabled on the right shoulder of the roadway about half a mile north of the crash site.

Maryland State Police said roads in the area were closed for roughly six hours. It asked anyone with information that could help troopers locate the driver of the BMW convertible or with other information about what happened to call its Rockville Barrack at (301) 424-2101.
