UC Davis getting ready for 110th Picnic Day

(FOX40.COM) — One of the hallmark events of UC Davis, Picnic Day, is just over two weeks away and this year is expected to be one of the largest yet.

Starting in 1909 as a showcase of the University’s Farm new dairy barn to the community, Picnic Day has evolved into a regional event that draws more than 70,000 people and offers hundreds of events.

New Food Network show to feature Davis restaurants in premiere episode

This year will be the 110th Picnic Day as the event has been canceled five times since its inception and has been continually running since 1946.

A fan favorite is its the parade that showcases the university towns quirky and Americana spirit.

This years parade will begin at North Quad Avenue and progress around the campus and streets of Davis before ending at 4th and 3rd streets along A Street.

Grand Marshalling this years parade will be Sheri Atkinson, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Like, Campus Community and Retention Services at UC Davis.

Some of the announcement locations for the parade include:
• Grandstands on North Quad Ave. Across from Veihmeyer Hall
• 2nd and D St. in front of Coldwell Banker Select Real Estate Inc.
• F St. in front of PDQ Fingerprinting
• 3rd and C St. near Burgers and Brew

Along with the beloved parade, this years Picnic Day will be offering more than 200 events that showcase the many fields of study that UC Davis offers.
