Vitamix Recalls 569,000 Blender Parts Sold Nationwide Due to Laceration Risk

Vitamix blender users, beware. The Ohio-based brand is recalling nearly 570,000 blending containers and blade bases because they can cause dangerous lacerations. According to a notice from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, roughly 569,000 parts are subject to recall. This includes approximately 105,000 blending containers and blade bases that were initially recalled in August 2018, and another 121,950 parts that were sold in Canada.

These parts are being recalled because the containers can separate from the blade base and expose the blades, thereby posing a laceration hazard to users. Thus far, Vitamix has received 27 reports of hand lacerations, including 11 reports from the 2018 recall.

The recalled items are listed below:

  • Vitamix Ascent Series 8-Ounce Blending Container

  • Vitamix Ascent Series 20-Ounce Blending Container

  • Vitamix Ascent Series Blade Base

  • Vitamix Venturist Series 8-Ounce Blending Container

  • Vitamix Venturist Series 20-Ounce Blending Container

  • Vitamix Venturist Series Blade Base

The now-recalled clear containers and black blade bases are included with certain Vitamix Venturist and Ascent Series blenders, such as the Venturist V1200, Ascent A2300, Ascent A2500, Ascent A3300, and Ascent A3500 appliances. These parts are also sold separately, as sets or bundles, in various configurations. The Vitamix logo is printed on the blending container.

Per the CPSC, the recalled blenders and blender parts were sold at Costco, Best Buy, Crate & Barrel, Macy’s, Target, Williams Sonoma, Walmart and specialty and independent stores nationwide, and online via Vitamix.com, Amazon.com and QVC.com from April 2017 through May 2024. They retailed for between $30 and $990 when sold with other products.

Additionally, all consumers, including those who participated in the 2018 recall, should immediately stop using the recalled blending containers and blade bases, and contact Vitamix for a repair kit. The kit includes a protective plastic shroud to attach over the blade base and remedy the laceration risk, as well as additional instructional labels.
