Voting underway in several local, state elections

Jun. 18—Pittsburg County voters have until 7 p.m. Tuesday to vote for sheriff, court clerk, and other local and state elections.

In local elections, Pittsburg County Sheriff Chris Morris is running for reelection against Randy Hass.

Pam Smith, the current Pittsburg County Court Clerk, is being challenged by Tracy Brock.

Mike Hayes and Don Chapman are running for the Pittsburg County District 2 Commissioner seat which is currently held by Sandra Crenshaw following the retirement of Kevin Smith in February. Crenshaw is not seeking election for the seat.

Due to no democratic challengers in the three local races, the winner of the June 18 primary will be elected and sworn into office Jan. 1, 2025.

Appearing on the Democratic ballot for County Assessor are current interim assessor Cathy Ridenour and Richard Howry. Howry has confirmed he has dropped out of the race, but his name will still appear on the ballot.

Since there is no Republican challenger, the winner of the assessor race will be elected and sworn into office on Jan. 1.

For state offices, J. Brian Bingman, Russell Ray, and Justin Hornback are in contention for the corporation commissioner seat.

On the ballot for District 15 State Representative are Gail Jackson, Tim Turner, Spring Morrow, Paul Palmer, and Casey Johnson.

Voters in line at their designated polling locations by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Voters must show photo identification or a county election board voter identification card.

Oklahoma has closed primary elections, meaning voters are limited to voting in their registered party's primary. However, the Democratic party has opened its primaries to independents for 2024 and 2025.

Voters with questions should contact the Pittsburg County Election Board at 918-423-3877 or pittsburgcounty@elections.ok.gov. The Pittsburg County Election Board is located at 7 E Chickasaw Ave, McAlester. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
