Watch: Why Trump’s conviction could help him win the election

After a six-week trial, Donald Trump has become the first ever former US president to be convicted of a felony.

12 jurors in New York unanimously agreed that he had falsified his business records to cover up a “hush money” payment to the porn star, Stormy Daniels.

Trump now faces the possibility of jail time after he is sentenced in July, which could see him put in charge of the world’s most powerful nation while being incarcerated by it.

It is unclear what impact this will have on the polls ahead of the presidential election in November but with Republican megadonors already announcing further cash injections, the evidence suggests that Trump’s convictions will only fuel his campaign, not hold him back.
