West Valley animal shelter beyond capacity, holding adoption event
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4) — West Valley Animal Services is in dire need of adoptions — the shelter is at nearly double the capacity of dogs it can hold.
In an Instagram post, the shelter said that they are holding 103 dogs in a facility meant to house 55 dogs.

“We will be unable to maintain a no-kill status with the amount of animals we have in our care,” they wrote.
To help lower these numbers, the shelter is hosting a “Shelter Saturday” adoption event on June 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The shelter went on to explain this situation can make dogs stressed and anxious as they are having to split the already little space that they have.
“The shelter is just trying to keep everyone fed and as comfortable as possible, but this is an absolute nightmare. We NEED serious and committed adopters to come see our animals. It’s a need. A must,” the post said.
West Valley Animal Service’s wrote that they have a dog that will fit what anyone is looking for — from family dogs, working dogs, puppies, doodles, derpy dogs, big blocky bullies, lap dogs and more.
Best Friends Animal Society will be covering adoption feeds. Cats and bunnies will also be available to adopt at the event.
