CLEVELAND (WJW) – An ancient statue at the Cleveland Museum of Art is being returned to its home country.

Last week, the Department of Antiquities of the State of Libya and the Cleveland Museum of Art announced the move.

The statue is a black basalt figure from the Ptolemaic era and dates from 200-100 BCE or later, according to CMA.

The statue was given to the museum in 1991.

However, based on new information from the Department of Antiquities, “The museum voluntarily recognizes the statue as the property of Libya.”

The museum is working with the department to explore future collaboration.

No word on a timeline for the move.
