Woman killed in shooting at St. Petersburg apartment complex
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman was killed in a shooting at a St. Petersburg apartment complex on Tuesday morning.
St. Petersburg police said Yvonne Abernathy, 25, was killed outside her apartment at the Reserve at Lake Point complex on Lynn Lake Drive South shortly before 6 a.m.
Crime scene tape and St. Pete police officers filled a large portion of the complex’s parking lot as investigators scaled the property looking for evidence.
Family members at the scene were visibly upset.
Police told us they had K-9 units out early searching for the gunman, but they haven’t been able to find the person.
Abernathy lived in her apartment with a family member, according to police.

That family member was home at the time of the shooting.
”We still have to talk to all of the witnesses to determine whether or not the victim knew the suspect but they were outside the apartment together shortly before 6 o’clock this morning,” said St. Pete Police Public Information Officer Yolanda Fernandez.
The woman’s body was reportedly found in a breezeway outside the apartments.
Police said the gunman is not in custody.
