Kelly Clarkson Doesn't Care About Katie Hopkins Body Shaming Her

Katie Hopkins, a television personality, really earned her title of ”most hated woman in Britain” this week. After seeing Kelly Clarkson on an appearance of The Graham Norton Show, she tweeted: ”Jesus, what happened to Kelly Clarkson? Did she eat all of her backing singers? Happily I have wide-screen. #grahamnorton.”

Despite the “Heartbeat Song" singer’s fans jumping to her defense across social media, with many noting that Clarkson had her baby less than a year ago, Hopkins continued her unprovoked cyberbullying of the American Idol alum, dispensing hurtful, harmful, and unwarranted attacks to news outlets and on her handles. “Kelly Clarkson is now a chunky monkey, if we’re putting it kindly,” the 40-year-old journalist told Entertainment Tonight. “She does look like she’s eaten her backup singers. My advice: she needs to get out there with her stroller and do some pushing and get some of that weight off.” She added: “That is no longer baby weight. That is carrot cake weight. Get over yourselves.”

But Clarkson, who is currently promoting her new album Piece by Piece, has taken the vicious comments in stride: “She’s tweeted something nasty about me? That’s because she doesn’t know me. I’m awesome! It doesn’t bother me. It’s a free world. Say what you will,” she told Heat magazine. ”I’ve just never cared what people think. It’s more if I’m happy and I’m confident and feeling good, that’s always been my thing. And more so now, since having a family — I don’t seek out any other acceptance.”

Clarkson’s self-esteem and personal acceptance is the kind of message that should make headlines, not Hopkins’ toxic criticisms. While the Sun columnist has now turned the controversy on its head, into a freedom of speech dispute, body shaming should never be a part of the conversation. Instead, we hope Clarkson’s positivity prevails. She said it best: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
