The Orville is just Star Trek fan-fiction, but that’s not such a bad thing
The Orville is basically just Star Trek fan-fiction - but in the grand scheme of things, that's not the worst thing to be.
Gunpowder was a powerful explanation of the real reason why we remember the 5th of November
Kit Harington in a medieval thriller invites comparison to Game of Thrones, but it doesn’t take long to realise Gunpowder is a drama with its own identity.

The Cuckoo’s Calling was a compelling detective drama – but one that faltered at the last hurdle
Tonight saw the conclusion of The Cuckoo’s Calling, the BBC’s adaptation of Robert Galbraith’s novel of the same name. In every respect, The Cuckoo’s Calling was a competently executed detective drama, moving intelligently between the different hallmarks of the genre. Burke and Grainger have an easy, confident chemistry together, and after even a short time, it’s difficult to imagine anyone else portraying the characters.
The Good Fight deserved an Emmy nomination – it’s the definitive piece of post-Trump television
Trump continued to haunt the narrative as the series went on, with regular reference to the realities of his presidency. John Cameron Mitchell played Felix Staples in an episode that satirised the realities of online abuse in a stark and discerning manner. Indeed, The Good Fight is shaped as an explicitly, brazenly post-Trump drama, intimately in tune with the concerns of the day.

Robert Kirkman reveals how you can tell if a Walking Dead character is going to survive
Robert Kirkman made this admission, via Cinema Blend, during his recent appearance on ‘Conan’ over in the US, explaining that when he’s asked who might perish in ’The Walking Dead’ he usually becomes instantly flustered and so quickly decides to lie. All in all that’s a pretty smart way to keep ‘Walking Dead‘ fans in suspense, especially since the mere mention that either Daryl, Rick, or Carl will die is enough to make people instantly mourn and weep. You only need to worry when Kirkman avoids mentioning a character, because at that point they’re almost certainly on the cusp of becoming a zombie’s dinner.

Christopher Lloyd becomes the latest perfect Big Bang Theory guest-star, Here are the 5 best
‘Back To The Future’ luminary Christopher Lloyd recently became the latest ‘Big Bang Theory’ guest-star in the most recent episode of the ever-green sitcom to air in America. Lloyd completely slayed it in his secretive role, which was kept from public knowledge for a very good reason. In fact, Christopher Lloyd’s appearance immediately made me jog down memory lane to recall my favourite people to have popped up on ‘The Big Bang Theory’.

Why Gilmore Girls’ frustrating four word farewell worked
Obligatory SPOILER warning: as the above title suggests the following article discusses the ending of the ‘Gilmore Girls’. It might not feel like it at the moment, but the ‘Gilmore Girls’ revival had everything that we wanted. While this might sound a bit callous, in the context of ‘Gilmore Girls’ who the father was doesn’t really matter.

A professor has worked out why The Simpsons predicts the future so often
It was hard to work out what was spookier, the fact that Donald Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States of America, or that ‘The Simpsons’ actually predicted it would happen 16 years ago back in 2001.

Abbi Jacobson’s description of her real-life friendship with Ilana Glazer will just melt Broad City fans’ hearts
Don’t feel bad, because it’s better than mine with my best friend, too. In fact it pretty much tops any friendship that any of us have ever borne witness to. Because while you probably thought the love and devotion of Abbi and Ilana’s friendship on ‘Broad City’ surely eclipsed their real-life companionship, Jacobson’s comments to Bustle made it clear that wasn’t the case.

Al Jean has a genius idea for how to end The Simpsons
When all is said and done, ‘The Simpsons’ might well be America’s greatest ever artistic creation. While there’s still some time before ‘The Simpsons’ has to consider how it will conclude, as it’s currently in its 28th season and has already been renewed for a 29th and 30th, too, its executive producer Al Jean has the perfect way for the show to finish when the time finally comes. Jean, who has been with ‘The Simpsons’ since it began, revealed to Esquire that he wants the final episode to loop back to the opening of ‘Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire’, which was the very first episode that aired all the way back at Christmas, 1989.

According to Chicagoist, Abbi Jacobson made this revelation last Friday while promoting her illustrated book, ‘Carry This Book’, in Chicago. Why Broad City needs to become more politically conscious following Hillary Clinton defeat
Most Hillary Clinton fans are still trying to figure out exactly how the Democratic nominee failed to become the 45th President Of The United States, and President-elect Donald Trump did. Because while Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, and LeBron James leant their weight to Hillary’s campaign, the most impressive celebrities to endorse Donald Trump came from the likes of ‘Duck Dynasty’ and ‘The Real Housewives of New Jersey’. In the Donald Trump presidency it’s going to be more interesting, and vital than ever, to see how musicians, film, and television stars channel their anger and political discourse, and whether it will make it into their work.

Amazon’s David O. Russell purchase proves that the small screen is providing a ripe playground for filmmakers
There are numerous fine filmmakers out there working wonders on the big-screen, with David Fincher and Martin Scorsese just two directors that immediately come to mind. Which is why the revelation that a director of David O. Russell’s ilk has decided to move into television with Amazon Studios is so intriguing. Especially since he has brought the esteemed Oscar winning acting talent of Julianne Moore and Robert De Niro along for the ride with him, too.

Why the Sheldon centric Big Bang Theory prequel could work
‘The Big Bang Theory’ has never garnered anywhere near the same acclaim as previous shows from the past three decades that attained similar viewing figures. TV viewers still have a soft spot for the likes of ‘Seinfeld’, ‘Friends’, and ‘Cheers’, while ‘The Big Bang Theory’ is regularly criticised for its depiction of nerds and nerd culture and for its regular use of obvious and lowest common denominator jokes. Considering the sheer amount of vastly different comedies that are now aired it’s not surprising that ‘The Big Bang Theory’ comes under more scrutiny than its predecessors, which were broadcast in an age when there were less channels and options for viewers.

3 comedies you should be watching if you love Broad City
Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer are currently working on the fourth season of the show, which they’re busy writing ahead of it allegedly and hopefully being released in the summer. You’ll have seen Donald Glover around. A former writer for ‘30 Rock’, actor on ‘Community’, and Grammy-nominated rapper who has released two albums, it wasn’t a surprise when FX gave Glover his own show, entitled ‘Atlanta’.

Shows like ‘House Of Cards’ and ‘Veep’ now need to go to even further extremes to shock and outrage viewers because of Trump’s rhetoric, gaffes, and pretty much everything that he has said and done since he announced his intention to become President. ‘Veep’s’ showrunner David Mandel has now admitted that the HBO comedy’s upcoming new season has been altered because of Trump’s remarks and actions, revealing that he and his fellow writers have looked to intensify their scripts accordingly.

Abbi Jacobson broadens her horizons, But should Broad City fans be worried?
While ‘Broad City’ fans have been revelling in Abbi Jacobson’s talent as both an actor and a writer for three seasons now, there has always been a hidden depth to her skills as a thespian that, because of the nature of the show, ‘Broad City’ hasn’t really mined. In fact, the closest ‘Broad City’ has ever come to being dramatic came towards the end of last season when Abbi started dating Trey behind Ilana’s back, only for the entire ruse to fall apart in Burning Bridges at the same time as Ilana broke down after her relationship with Lincoln emphatically came to an end. Since the third season ran on for two more episodes, which revolved around Abbi and Ilana at first trying to get to JFK airport and then subsequently flying to Israel, without really addressing the demise of Trey and Abbi’s courtship you can’t help but feel that it’ll be explored in further detail at some point in the fourth season.

As Veep’s Sixth Season Begins Production Tony Hale Insists It’s A ‘Completely New World’
It’s been a pretty good month for everyone involved with ‘Veep’. For the second year in a row it won the Primetime Emmy Award For Outstanding Comedy Series, which was only eclipsed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ sixth consecutive Lead Actress In A Comedy Series Emmy, while production on the show’s sixth season began this week, too. Going into its brand new season ‘Veep’ has never been in a more impressive position, with critics and fans alike proclaiming that it’s most recent run of episodes were as funny as any of its preceding four seasons worth.

Who knew that a mother would openly call herself a “bad mother”and embrace it
Mothers seem to always hold the fort. They keep the family together through the good and bad times. At least that is what my mother told me..but one thing that she never told me is that at times, she feels as though she is a ‘bad mom’. I’m British so it’s ‘mum’.

Julia Louis Dreyfus Will Become The Funniest Woman Ever With Another Emmy Win
No-one has come close to lighting up the small screen like Julia Louis-Dreyfus has done over the last 27 years. For those of you that can’t remember, Dreyfus shot to fame as Elaine Benes in ‘Seinfeld’ back in 1989, and while ‘The New Adventures Of Old Christine’ didn’t come close to reaching the heights of her antics with Jerry, George, Kramer et al she still excelled in the sitcom. If she did win yet another Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series that would be her sixth in the last 11 years, as she previously picked up the gong in 2006 for the first season of ‘The New Adventures Of Old Christine’.

Silicon Valley Creator Reveals Dream Cameo They’re Currently Pursuing
‘Silicon Valley’ has made a habit out of including some rather impressive celebrity cameos that are perfect for the show’s tech world setting. The problem is most of us probably didn’t recognise any of them, though. Snapchat creator Evan Spiegel, the Winklevoss twins Cameron and Tyler, who famously sued Mark Zuckerberg over Facebook, Asana creator Justin Rosenstein, and Dropbox CEO Drew Houston have each popped up in ‘Silicon Valley’s’ run over the last three seasons. After being told by The Daily Beast that a Peter Thiel cameo on ‘Silicon Valley’ would be perfect, Judge responded, “Yeah, I mean we’ve talked with him.
