The Black Steel Greathammer is a Greathammer found exclusively in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. This big and powerful hammer can make short work of foes that stand in your way—so long as you have the appropriate stats to wield it. This is a weapon designed for a Strength/Faith hybrid build, so if that sounds like you, this is one you’ll want to track down, especially for its unique guard-counter attack that creates a holy explosion. Awesome.

Here’s what you need to know about the Black Steel Greathammer and where to find it.

Black Steel Greathammer stats and features

The Black Steel Greathammer has a weight of 12.0 and requires the following stats to wield:

  • STR - 25

  • DEX - 11

  • FAI - 17

The weapon comes equipped with Ash of War: Endure. This Ash of War has you assume a stance that will briefly increase your poise and all absorptions by 45%. This is an excellent choice if you’re seeking to reduce the damage of big attacks from bosses.

The Black Steel Greathammer can be upgraded to +25 with standard Smithing Stones.

Black Steel Greathammer item description

The Black Steel Greathammer’s item description reads:

“Weapon of the Black Knights, servants of Messmer the Impaler. Greathammer of black steel with decorative embellishments in gold.

Blessed with an Erdtree Incantation. Further holy imbuement will amplify the effect and greatly increase the armament’s power. Guard Counters cause a burst of power.”

Where to find the Black Steel Greathammer

You can find the Black Steel Greathammer extremely early in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion in Gravesite Plain. From the first Site of Grace (Gravesite Plain Site of Grace), make your way southeast and follow the road you encounter until you reach the Church of Consolation.

Inside the Church of Consolation is an enemy wielding the Black Steel Greathammer. He’s not terribly difficult to take down, but he can slam the hammer down and create a holy AOE attack, so make sure to stay out of the way of that. When he falls, you’ll get to take his Black Steel Hammer for your own.
