Lane Thomas hit a three-run home run and the Washington Nationals beat Atlanta 7-2 on Wednesday night to spoil Braves right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach's major league debut. Schwellenbach (0-1), who had never pitched above Double-A, lasted five innings, giving up three runs and five hits with five strikeouts, one walk and a hit batter. After a leadoff double in the fifth, Schwellenbach hit Jacob Young in the head with a fastball when the No. 9 hitter squared to bunt.
Jacob Young had three hits as one of six Washington players with multi-hit games to pace the visiting Nationals to an 8-4 win over the Atlanta Braves on Monday in the opener of a four-game series. Young went 3-for-4 and drove in a run during the sixth inning. The Nationals banged out 15 hits, with CJ Abrams, Lane Thomas, Keibert Ruiz, Jesse Winker and Nick Senzel picking up two hits apiece.
The Washington Nationals reinstated Lane Thomas from the 10-day injured list Monday and designated fellow outfielder Victor Robles for assignment. Thomas missed a month with an MCL sprain in his left knee. Thomas, 28, is batting .184 with 2 homers, 10 RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 22 games this season.
