When Guardians catcher Austin Hedges opened last season with the eternally rebuilding Pirates, a World Series ring was the last thing on his mind. Ups and downs followed, but the wild-card Rangers did win the World Series, beating Arizona in five games. Hedges and outfielder Robbie Grossman, who recently rejoined Texas in a trade with the White Sox, received their World Series rings from manager Bruce Bochy and GM Chris Young at home plate before Monday's series opener at Globe Life Field.
Brayan Rocchio singled home automatic runner Ramón Laureano with one out in the 10th inning, giving the Cleveland Guardians a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.
Austin Hedges barreled a ball for the first time since the end of the 2022 season. And the Guardians dugout jokingly gave him the silent treatment.
