Zach Eflin heads to injured list as Brandon Lowe returns for Rays

Zach Eflin felt the tweak in his back as soon as he threw the pitch near the end of his outing against the Blue Jays on Saturday. Now, inflammation in his lower back has landed the right-hander on the 15-day injured list. Eflin was the first of several roster moves the Rays made before the series opener against the Red Sox at Tropicana Field. Brandon Lowe (oblique strain) was activated, as was left-handed reliever Richard Lovelady, who the Rays acquired from the Cubs over the weekend.

Braves Reportedly Interested in AL East Starting Pitcher

The Atlanta Braves reportedly want to reinforce their rotation. When you think about the season-ending injury to ace Spencer Strider and the workload concerns of starters Chris Sale (injury), Reynaldo López (converting from relief), and Charlie Morton (age), it makes sense. Per MLB Insider Bob Nightengale, the Braves are “keeping a close eye on” Tampa Bay Rays veteran Zach Eflin. Eflin, 30, hasn't gotten off to the same caliber of start to fit what he did last season, when he went 16-8 with a 3.50 ERA in his 31 starts for Tampa Bay, striking out 186 in his 177.2 innings.

Jonny DeLuca hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning and the Tampa Bay Rays overcame a four-run deficit to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 on Saturday for their fourth straight win and 11th in 15 games. “Today was a huge win,” Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash said. Yandy Díaz reached base five times and Amed Rosario hit a two-run single for the Rays, who have won four of five series.
